Unlike other private practice speech therapy clinics, included in your child’s appointment for therapy is up to 10 minutes of family consultation following their session to discuss what was targeted in therapy that day, as well as ideas for home practice to support carryover and quicker progress when appropriate. Why don't you accept insurance?
If you have ever dealt with an insurance company, you know it can be a battle. In order to accept insurance, it would require me to hire an additional employee to spend countless hours billing and dealing with insurance companies. All too often, only a small percentage of the amount billed is ever reimbursed, if at all. I have chosen, instead, to devote time and resources to providing services that will benefit children more directly, such as providing and purchasing individualized therapy materials and catering to your child's specific needs, without worrying about it being "covered".
I DO accept cash, checks, ALL credit cards, and health savings account cards (HSA).

What can I expect at an evaluation?
An evaluation can last from about 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending upon the areas being assessed, and allows me the opportunity to evaluate speech and language skills through standardized tests, observation, background information/child history, and parent report. Referrals to other professionals may be made if, during the evaluation, it is found that your child is having difficulties in areas that are outside the scope of practice for the SLP, including an Audiologist, ENT, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or Orthodontist, etc.
Following the evaluation you will receive a brief verbal summary of the findings. If therapy is warranted, the written evaluation report will be reviewed with you at the first therapy appointment. If it is found that your child has attained age appropriate speech and language skills, there will be no further appointments and you will receive a written report in the mail.

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?
If you think your child may have a speech or language delay, a good place to start is with your pediatrician, day care provider, or teacher. They can be a great source for gauging your child's speech/language skills based on what other children of the same age are doing. All kids develop differently and excel in different areas!

How long and how frequent are therapy visits?
Therapy is always tailored to the unique needs of the individual. I typically recommend 30-, 45-, or 60-minute sessions. Depending on the age of the child and the type and severity of deficits, therapy is recommended at 1x, 2x, or 3x per week. The scope and duration of therapy will be discussed in consultation with the SLP during the initial visit.

Is there any paperwork I should fill out prior to my first visit?
Yes! You will be sent a Case History Form and Policies & Procedures document, which gives me the background information pertinent to speech/language development. Please print them and bring them to your first appointment. Filling this paperwork out prior to the evaluation saves time and is greatly appreciated.
